How I got here.
I got into this work because money runs through nearly every part of a person's life, and hardly anyone is taught how it works. People end up making big financial decisions on instinct, usually at the point where getting one wrong is hardest to recover from. Guiding people through those decisions is what I’m here for.
I started in the industry in 2014, out of a three-year financial planning program. Since then, I've seen this business from a number of different perspectives, and formed clear views about how the work should be done. Stevens Retirement Advantage is where I put them into practice.
How I work.
I'm independent. I'm not tied to any company or product shelf, so what I recommend is built around your situation and nothing else.
Planning always comes first. The investment decisions follow it, because they can't be made properly until the plan is clear.
Most people arrive with accounts spread across a few institutions, and nobody looking at all of them together. Bringing them into one place means one plan and one person who knows what's in it. I build it, and I keep it current.
WHAT THE WORK HAS TAUGHT ME
Most people have saved more than they need.
Few people who come to me know where they stand. After working through the numbers with many families, the same pattern comes up again and again. What they plan to spend is often comfortably supported by what they have, and the portfolio rarely needs to be as large as they assumed.
Of course, there are exceptions. Sometimes the plan doesn't hold, and then the value is in finding out early enough to change course. But more often, what I get to tell someone is that the trip is affordable, the gift won’t set them back, and the retirement they've pictured is one they can go ahead and live.
That's the part of the job I like most.
Away from the desk.
You'll find me snowboarding through the winter, camping in the summer, and travelling whenever I can. I've lived in and around London most of my life, with lots of friends and family still in the area.
